Bradley Hat

In tribute to a most exceptionally brave little boy who sadly lost his battle with neuroblastoma - Bradly Lowery - 
a six-year-old Sunderland AFC football fan who captured the hearts of thousands..........
 
Bradley Hat
 
 
Bradley Hat          Beanie Style        6 – 10 years
 
Tension - 22sts = 4" (10cm)         CHECK YOUR TENSION!
 
 
Size:

Width:          8” (16” all around)
Height:        7½”
 
Requires:
 
DK yarn in red and white
3.25mm & 4mm needles
 
Using 3.25 mm needles and red yarn, cast on 89sts
Work 10 rows in K1, P1 rib
Change to 4mm needles
Knit 1 row
Add in white
(do not cut off the red yarn, simply carry it loosely up the side and use as required)
 
** Using white ~

Knit 2 rows
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
 
Using red ~
Knit 2 rows
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row  **
 
Repeat from ** to ** once more
 
Using white ~
Knit 2 rows
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
 
Cut off the white yarn
 
Using red ~
Knit 2 rows
Purl 1 row
 
Shape the top ~
1st  Row:  (K6, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                        78sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th,12th Rows:  Purl
3rd  Row:  (K5, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                      67sts
5th  Row:  (K4, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                       56sts
7th  Row:  (K3, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                       45sts
9th  Row:  (K2, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                       34sts
11th  Row (K1, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                       23sts
13th  Row (K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                              12sts
Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.

  1. That is a lovely gesture. Three years ago, I did something similar. I designed and named a little keepsake bag after a boy I used to teach, but who died suddenly.
